LIEUTENANT-COLONEL Robert Saunders, CD
LCol Saunders was born in Woodstock, NB in November 1964. He began his military career as a reservist with 89th Fd Bty in Woodstock as part of the SYEP program in July 1983. In the next three years LCol Saunders took his commission and left the Bty as a Lt. In 1987 LCol Saunders transferred to the regular force as an officer and after phase training was posted to W Bty, Field Artillery School, CFB Gagetown where he served until 1992.
In 1992 he was posted to the 10th Field Regiment as a Capt and was employed as the unit Adjt/Ops O until he was posted to the Saskatchewan Militia HQ as the EA to the Comd in 1995. In 1996 he was posted to 4th Air Defense Regiment, RCA in Moncton, NB where he completed Bty and Regt Officer positions and completed a Tour to Bosnia, leaving as the Operations Officer in 2001. In 2001 LCol Saunders returned to CTC, first as a staff officer and then as a candidate on the Instructor-in-Gunnery course. After three years as a Standards Officer and instructor he returned to 4th Air Defense Regiment, RCA in 2005 where he performed various duties until his promotion to Major in 2011.
In 2011 LCol Saunders was posted to Lebanon as a UN Observer. Upon his return to Canada in 2012 he was posted to 4 Wing Cold as the Ground Liaison Officer. In 2015 it was time to go back across the Atlantic Ocean, this time with family as he was posted to the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) HQ in England. In 2018 LCol Saunders returned to Canada as the Deputy Commander for the Joint Meteorological Centre (JMC) in Gagetown. Upon his retirement from the Regular Force in 2020, LCol Saunders returned to 3rd Field Regiment as BC HQ.
LCol Saunders was promoted to his present rank of LCol on 12 December 2020 and appointed Commanding Officer 3rd Field Artillery Regiment (The Loyal Company) RCA.
LCol Saunders is married to Mihaela Vujakovic-Saunders and currently resides in Fredericton.
